Love It or Loathe It?

Are you feeling stuck in your work, business, or creative project?

There is a workshop exercise that I love doing with clients because it helps to uncover what is aligned or not and is simple but powerful. I am all about helping people prosper doing more of what they love with people who recognize and appreciate their superpowers. If this sounds like something you could use some help with try this exercise and see what comes up for you.

LOVE/LOATHE EXERCISE:

1. Gather some sticky notes (two colors if possible), a Sharpie pen, and a timer (your phone's timer is fine). Make sure you have a fair amount of space on a nearby wall wherever you do this exercise.
2. Set a timer for six minutes.
3. Take a stack of sticky notes and use your Sharpie pen to write a simple note on each sticky identifying things you LOVE doing.
4. Don't overthink or edit. Just write one thing on one sticky note and keep going until the timer stops.
5. Put the stickies up on one side of the wall.
6. Reset your timer for another six minutes.
7. Do the exercise again except this time you're going to write things you LOATHE doing (on the other color of sticky notes).
8. Put the stickies up on the other side of the wall opposite the first arrangement of stickies.
9. Now, organize the stickies in each section. Put things together that are similar.
10. Prioritize what you LOVE the most from top to bottom and then do the same with the things you LOATHE.
11. Note the top five things in each column and reflect on what it is you LOVE or LOATHE about each.
12. Think about how you can do more of the things you LOVE doing and less of the things you LOATHE doing.
13. Questions to think about: Can you delegate, automate, or eliminate them? Are their opportunities with the things you LOVE doing, now that you will be creating more space for them after addressing the things you LOATHE doing?
14. Leave the stickies up for a week or so, so you see them as you pass by and are processing what you want to be doing more of and what you are ready to let go of.
15. Finally, reach out if you have questions or if you have a breakthrough. Please share what came up for you so we can celebrate together!
